GWI celebrates World Teachers Day, 5 October 2016
Graduate Women International (GWI) celebrates World Teachers Day, 5 October 2016 by calling on States and policy makers to honour their commitment to achieving the Education Agenda 2030 that ¡°ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.¡± GWI actively supports the recruitment and deployment of women teachers through its Teachers for Rural Futures project, based in rural Buyende district, Uganda. Since a lack of women teachers is a barrier to girls¡¯ education in Uganda, GWI is working with its national affiliate, the Uganda Association of University Women (UAUW) to address this shortfall. Girls selected from the rural district of Buyende are sponsored to train as qualified secondary teachers and return to their communities. These young women teachers will have a unique position as positive agents of change to advocate for girls to enrol in and complete secondary school.  Help us celebrate World Teachers Day and also train 50 women teachers and bring about lasting change in Uganda. Donate here!

The Japanese Association of University Women offers several scholarship programmes
The Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) proudly carries out various annual scholarship programmes, sharing the mission of GWI. The longstanding Domestic Scholarship has run for 68 years and presents awards to 10-12 graduates /undergraduates every year. The International Fellowship, established in 1970, has helped a number of scholars from abroad, largely GWI members, to be hosted in Japan under the guidance of specialists. There are two additional fellowships to encourage promising female scientists. JAUW also carries out nationwide symposiums, with members from JAUW¡¯s 25 chapters sharing their own research for discussion. The newly-elected office holders of JAUW include President Yaeko Sumi, Vice Presidents Kazuko Umeda and Mitsuko Tanabe, and Co-ordinator of International Relations (CIR) Izumi Yamashita.

GWI and partners to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child with a Flashmob dance!
GWI and partners from the Non-Governmental Organisation Commission on the Status of Women (NGOCSW) will celebrate the International Day of the Girl (IDOG) with a Flashmob dance at the Place des Nations, Geneva at 13.00 on 11 October 2016. Through this exciting event, GWI means to engage all actors and gain their full commitment to investing in girls. Celebrating girls worldwide on 11 October raises awareness that states and their partners must take meaningful actions towards reaching Sustainable Development Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This year GWI is focusing on the need for investment into gender disaggregated data: Girl data = goal data! Tweet to #IDOG @GradWomen Join us at this exciting event!
