The second
Girls¡¯ Choices Mobile Application workshop is held in Rwanda
Graduate Women
International (GWI) in partnership with Paper Crown Institute delivered a second workshop in Kigali,
Rwanda, to develop the GWI Girls¡¯ Choices Mobile Application
(app). The group of teenage girls, who also participated in the first
workshop in March 2016, worked together to give feedback on materials for the
application. Orange Device Group and GWI are working in partnership to
deliver the mobile app, which seeks to address the information gap on tertiary
education in the country. Once developed, this app will be a fun and accessible
way of supporting up to 300,000 teenage girls to make informed choices in order
to complete secondary school and transition to university, further education or
professional work. After piloting in Rwanda the app will be extended to
additional countries. For further information please contact Mr Paul William Delorme.

GWI member events at the 60th
Commission on the Status of Women in New York During the second week at the 60th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60), GWI
members delivered a number of different events. Women Graduates – USA (WG-USA) delivered a session on Street
Harassment of Women at the 60th Commission on the Status of Women
(CSW60). The panel discussed measures which have been successful in curbing the
problem of street harassment, for example on public transport. This discussion
can be viewed in full on Youtube. In another event, GWI members Professors Shirley
Randall and Jaya Dantas presented global case scenarios from India, Bangladesh,
Rwanda and Western Australia about 'Implementation of Rights-Based Approaches to
Enhance Effective Education for Women'. Also at the CSW60, GWI United Nations
Representative Ms Mick Minard read the GWI statement on the overall CSW60 theme
Women¡¯s Empowerment and its link to Sustainable Development, which can be viewed
on UNTV here. The full text of the written and oral statements can be found here.

Women International supports the campaign for a woman United Nations
Secretary–GeneralWomen constitute
half of the world's population. To achieve gender equality economically,
socially and politically, women must be within top policy-making circles and in
leadership positions. Having a woman as United Nations (UN) Secretary-General opens doors for other
highly qualified women to be considered for other leading roles within the UN as
well as in other international positions of high visibility and responsibility.
The UN supports gender equity (fairness), equality (equal access) and inclusion.
Inclusion equates action and women must be included at the highest levels. There
have been eight male Secretary-Generals and the ninth should be a woman. It is
time. Read here for more information.
