GWI members
hosting events at the Commission on the Status of Women in New
York GWI member Women Graduates–USA (WG-USA) hosted a parallel event with Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) on 16 March 2016 at the 60th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), New
York. Peacekeepers presented examples of the beneficial use of unarmed civilian
protection (UCP) in South Sudan. NP uses gender-equal protection, and all-women
teams where possible. In addition to being trained in UCP methods, they have
formed a movement called "One Voice" in South Sudan, where women from the two
major tribes have come together and successfully advocated for peace and seats
at the peace agreement table. For a summary of the first week of CSW60 sessions
attended by GWI members, please read here. More information on GWI member events at CSW will be
available in the next Update.
